Kimi no Na wa.

Watching a celestial event go terribly wrong sets the stage for this 2016 cinematic phenomenon. Animated by Comix Wave Films, the film follows two teenagers leading completely separate lives across different parts of Japan. Their mundane realities suddenly intertwine when they begin swapping bodies, leading to a chaotic mix of comedic misunderstandings and genuine emotional bonding as they leave notes for one another. However, the highly rated feature soon shifts gears from a quirky coming-of-age story into a desperate race against time, complicated by memory loss and astronomical anomalies. The visual direction captures both the dazzling lights of Tokyo and the quiet, starry skies of a rural mountain town with breathtaking detail. Tying together elements of astronomy and wishes, the movie offers a highly accessible and emotionally charged standalone viewing experience.
