Castlevania

Blood flows freely across 15th-century Wallachia in this grim, beautifully animated adaptation of the classic video game. Released as a four-episode ONA in 2017, the series quickly earned its impressive 8.3 score through sharp writing and brutal, beautifully choreographed action. Brought to life by Frederator Studios, Mua Film, and Powerhouse Animation, the story begins as Dracula unleashes his demonic hordes upon the countryside following a horrific tragedy. The only hope for the terrified populace rests on a disgraced monster hunter and a mysterious magic-user who possesses elemental powers. The show leans heavily into its mature rating, featuring intense violence, gothic architecture, and morally complex character dynamics. Its short episode count ensures a fast-paced, tightly wound narrative with absolutely zero filler. Even though it is an anime-influenced Western production rather than a native Japanese release, its stunning action sequences and dark fantasy atmosphere make it an easy recommendation for fans of gothic horror.
