Kaze no Shoujo Emily

Long before anime became synonymous with fast-paced action, studios like TMS Entertainment crafted gentle adaptations of classic literature. Broadcast in 2007, this 26-episode series adapts Lucy Maud Montgomery's beloved novels about an orphaned girl growing up in early 20th-century Canada. Emily Byrd Starr is a highly imaginative child with a passion for writing, but her life changes drastically when her father passes away. She is taken in by her strict, conservative relatives at New Moon Farm, a transition that brings its own set of trials, including harsh bullying from peers and the daily struggle to express her creative voice. As a coming-of-age story, the anime leans heavily into the quiet routines of rural countryside life, exploring human relationships and the deep bonds formed with animals. Earning a respectable score of 7.4, the show offers a cozy, nostalgic viewing experience that stays true to its literary roots.
