The iDOLM@STER

Long before the modern idol boom saturated the anime medium, A-1 Pictures delivered a foundational take on the music industry with this 2011 series. Based on a popular video game, the story follows the thirteen aspiring idols of 765 Production. Rather than focusing solely on the glitz and glamour, the twenty-five episodes meticulously chart the daily grind of these young women. From acting gigs and cooking challenges to athletics and managing animals, the series highlights their diverse personalities and growing camaraderie. What makes the viewing experience so compelling is the careful balance of comedy and coming-of-age drama. Watching these girls stumble, learn, and eventually shine during their awards ceremonies brings a genuine sense of accomplishment. It acts as a time capsule for the era while offering a surprisingly detailed look at the hard work behind the performances.
