Free! Movie 5: The Final Stroke - Kouhen

Built as a feature-length finish to the Free! movie run, The Final Stroke - Kouhen brings the series' athletic focus into a more mature phase. This 2022 Kyoto Animation film centers on competition, personal limits, and the bonds within an ensemble cast that is primarily adult and male. Its coming-of-age concerns have not disappeared; they now carry the extra weight of established careers, long-running rivalries, and choices shaped by years of swimming. The single-movie format favors momentum and emotional payoff over the slower club rhythms of a TV season, while the drama remains tied to the physical demands of athletics. With an 8.0 score, it is the highest-rated entry in this batch, though its appeal depends heavily on investment in the wider Free! cast and story. Treat it as a culmination rather than a starting point.
