Hoshiai no Sora

A seemingly standard middle school sports club setup quickly reveals a much heavier core. Produced by Studio 8-bit in Fall 2019, this 12-episode series uses soft tennis as a vehicle to explore deeply personal and often painful character-driven narratives. The story follows two boys forced to team up, navigating not only their strained dynamic but also the heavy burdens of their home lives. The show does not shy away from intense angst, directly confronting issues like child abuse, adoption, and aggressive bullying. Complicating matters further is an absurdly powerful student council that governs the school's clubs with an iron fist. The series splits its time between the court and the characters' turbulent personal lives, painting a harsh picture of adolescence. While it features subtle boys' love undertones, the primary focus remains on the psychological toll of its heavy subject matter.
