Freedom

Sunrise took a massive creative swing in 2006 by releasing this seven-episode OVA entirely in cel-shaded 3D CG animation. Set in a strict, domed lunar colony, the story kicks off when a group of adventurous teens discovers an item that suggests life might still exist on a supposedly ruined Earth. Tagged heavily with cyberpunk, disaster, and action elements, the narrative races forward at a breathless pace. Although the 7.4 score might reflect how divisive early CGI can look to modern audiences, the show remains a fascinating time capsule of digital animation experimentation. The crisp 2006 visuals craft a distinct, stark atmosphere for the lunar bases and the ruined Americas. As a concise, fast-moving sci-fi adventure, it wastes no time plunging its cast into a rebellion against their oppressive society. If you have a soft spot for retro CGI or compact dystopian narratives, this is a highly unique viewing experience.
