Fruits Basket: Prelude

A tender, bruised farewell sits at the heart of Fruits Basket: Prelude, a 2022 movie that gathers romance, family pain, comedy, and afterlife imagery into an achronological closing piece. Its age-gap romance and child-abuse themes give the story a heavier edge than its bishounen appeal or Chinese zodiac tag might suggest, while the shifts in time ask you to watch for emotional echoes rather than a straight line of events. The film is based on a manga and comes from TMS Entertainment and 8pan, with a strong 8.3 score. At one episode, it works best as a compact companion for viewers already attached to the broader Fruits Basket experience. Expect a reflective mood, flashes of warmth, and material that treats healing as something shaped by painful history. It is intimate rather than expansive, with its unusual structure doing much of the emotional work.
