Ousama Ranking: Yuuki no Takarabako

Wit Studio's belated return to the Ousama Ranking universe arrived in Spring 2023 as a 10-episode collection that rearranges its narrative into achronological fragments. Rather than a straightforward continuation, Yuuki no Takarabako assembles moments from across the manga's timeline — some familiar, some unseen — to build a mosaic of Bojji's world. The child-king protagonist and his shadow companion Kage remain the emotional center, but the shuffled chronology casts earlier events in startling new light. Betrayal, memory loss, and the cruelties of aristocratic power structures thread through these episodes with the same painterly art style and weighty combat animation that defined the original run. Tags like celestial being and animal abuse hint at the darker corners this series is willing to explore. At 7.4, the score reflects a somewhat divisive entry — fans of the first season's forward momentum may find the episodic rearrangement disorienting, while those who love the world's texture and character backstories will find plenty to excavate here.
