Tanaka-kun wa Kyou mo Kedaruge

Slumping through high school life has never been as charming as it is in this 2016 Silver Link production. Comprised of thirty-five short episodes, this ONA adapts the manga into bite-sized vignettes that celebrate the sheer laziness of its titular character. Tanaka possesses an almost philosophical dedication to doing absolutely nothing, transforming listlessness into an art form. As a result, the narrative bypasses high-stakes drama in favor of pleasant, episodic school scenarios. Surrounded by an energetic cast of friends who constantly fuss over him, Tanaka's deadpan demeanor creates a delightful comedic contrast. The chibi art style perfectly matches the lighthearted tone, emphasizing the comedic timing of each sigh and dramatic flop. Aiding its relaxing atmosphere is the show's refusal to rush; it just wants its viewers to sit back, relax, and laugh at the absurdity of avoiding effort at all costs. It is an easy watch that feels like a gentle sigh of relief.
