Tsuki ga Kirei

Middle school romance rarely feels this authentic. Animated by studio feel. and airing in 2017, Tsuki ga Kirei scores a highly respectable 8.0 across its 12 episodes. The story tracks Kotarou, an aspiring writer with a quiet passion for literature, and Akane, a shy girl on the school track team. As they navigate their final year of junior high, the anime captures the hesitant, stumbling progression of first love. The character-driven narrative finds strength in small moments—text messages, awkward glances, and the anxiety of school events. While known for some occasionally awkward background CGI crowds, the core drama remains deeply relatable. The show explores themes of coming of age, personal passions like athletics, and the challenge of communicating honest feelings. It presents a specific, fleeting time in life, avoiding exaggerated melodrama in favor of quiet emotional beats. The result is a grounded, nostalgic viewing experience.
