Yuri!!! on Ice

Few sports anime manage to balance intimate character drama with world-class athletics quite like this 2016 MAPPA production. The twelve-episode series follows Japanese figure skater Yuuri Katsuki, whose career is on the decline after a crushing defeat. His sudden return to the ice catches the attention of his idol, the legendary Russian champion Victor Nikiforov, who travels to Japan to become Yuuri's coach. What unfolds is a deeply character-driven narrative wrapped in the high-stakes arena of the Grand Prix circuit. The studio animates the skating routines with fluid, expressive motion, treating each performance as a window into the skater's psychology. Garnering an impressive 8.0 rating and multiple awards, the show earned widespread praise for its healthy, adult relationships and mature romance. The international cast brings various skating styles to the rink, creating an absorbing viewing experience built on discipline, artistic expression, and mutual respect.
